Account opening — document checklist
These are the documents normally required to open a brokerage account in Pakistan. Bring them with you, or have scans ready if you are applying online. Our compliance team confirms the final list for your particular application, since it varies for joint accounts, corporate accounts and non-resident applicants.
- Original CNIC, plus a clear copy of both sides. A NICOP or POC is used instead for a non-resident applicant.
- Two recent passport-size photographs.
- Proof of your bank account in your own name — a cancelled cheque, a maintenance certificate, or a statement header showing the IBAN and title.
- Evidence of your source of income or funds, such as a salary slip, an employer letter, or business registration documents.
- Your National Tax Number, if you have one. Your filer status affects the rate of tax withheld on your transactions.
- Your Zakat declaration (form CZ-50) if you wish to claim exemption.
- Next-of-kin or nominee details, including their CNIC number.
- A mobile number and email address in your own name — these are used for trade confirmations and one-time passwords, so they must not belong to anyone else.
For what happens after you submit them, see the Account Opening Guide, or start an application.
Charges and disclosures
Brokerage commission is not fixed by the exchange — it is agreed between you and your broker, and it is set out in the client agreement you sign. Statutory charges such as CDC, NCCPL, SECP fees and withholding tax apply on top. The Fees, Charges & Taxes page explains each line that can appear on your bill and where it goes.
Our licence, settlement arrangements and the regulators we answer to are set out under Regulatory Status. Investor rights and the complaint route are covered in the Investor Hub.
Investment risk. Investments in securities are subject to market risk. Security prices may rise or fall, and investors may lose some or all of their invested capital. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
