Economy & Policy

The decisions and data that move the whole market at once — policy rates, inflation, the external account and the federal budget.

No research reports have been published in this section yet. Reports will appear here as the research desk publishes them, each under its own publication date.

What this coverage includes

  • State Bank of Pakistan monetary policy decisions and the reasoning published with them
  • Inflation, growth and other released economic indicators
  • Fiscal developments, including the federal budget and taxation measures affecting listed companies and investors
  • External-account developments, including the exchange rate and reserves

Why it affects share prices

The policy rate changes what a safe return pays, which changes what investors will pay for a risky one. Inflation changes company costs and consumer demand. Taxation changes what a shareholder actually keeps. These forces reach every listed company at once, which is why a market can move sharply on a day when no company announced anything.

What this coverage is not

It is analysis of published data and announced decisions. It is not a forecast of what any authority will decide next, and it is not advice about how to position a portfolio in response.

Research material is provided for general informational purposes only and does not constitute personalised investment advice, an offer, a solicitation or a guarantee of future performance. Market conditions and security prices may change without notice. Investors should assess their objectives, financial circumstances and risk tolerance before making an investment decision.
